My First Honda

Many, many, many, many moons ago, I wanted a 1987 Honda Prelude. I thought it was the coolest car…EVER! Did I get the Prelude…NO! Hold on! Hold on! Hold on! Some of you may not know what the Honda Prelude was, and some of you may know more than anyone could ever want to know, but it was my dream car! So my parents got me a Honda Accord. Nice car, but I was a Junior in high school (natch! now you know my age) and I wanted a cool car. Not something reliable. My compromise was something cool and reliable, i.e. a Honda Prelude.

Let me just say that it is true, it doesn’t matter what color or model you get at the dealership…once my parents were buying me a brand new 1987 Honda Accord off the show room floor, I sped around the parking lot like the spoiled brat you all probably think I was/am. And I loved that car for 8 months!

You see, I probably was a bit of a brat back then. But no matter, I worked really hard to save up enough money to have my parents match my savings and finally get me…wait for it….wait for it….a 1988 Honda Prelude! (Yes, my family is the customer car dealerships love to do business with.) So I ended up with a black on black, sunroof with a wind visor, luggage rack on the trunk, since the spoiler wasn’t out until the 1989 model, and the silver strip on the bottom of the door panels that said “Prelude.”  Ahhhhhhh…the memories. But more importantly, can you envision my sweet ride? She was a beaut. And that was the year I got my personal license plate that I still have to this day on my SUV. Sorry, I can’t give out that information…I don’t want to be hounded for autographs. Ha! Ha! Ha!

But seriously, I kept my Honda Prelude for 188,000 miles, and only traded her in for a 2004 Honda Accord because I needed a larger vehicle. I can honestly say that my 1988 Honda Prelude was ,and still is my favorite car. Was it because I worked hard for it? Was it because it was cool? Was it because it was a Honda? You tell me.

Honda Loves Racing

To bring attention to a deep rooted affiliation with ‘fast’ and competitive, Honda’s marketing agency has developed a campaign to promote their involvement with IZOD IndyCar®.  The campaign also helps promote the INDY 500.

The “Fastest Seat in Sports” sweepstakes gives race enthusiasts the opportunity to win a ride in the IZOD IndyCar® two-seater driven by Andretti at one of 12 races for the 2012 IndyCar® season.  For the first time, this year’s sweepstakes prizes include rides in the Indy 500 and two international races in Brazil and China.

A 60-second version will first air during the Indy 500, and a 30-second version began airing April 1 to promote the sweepstakes.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes video showing the making of “Imagine”.

Back from the future, it’s a concept, and it’s Honda’s NSX

When Acura pulled the satiny sheet off of the NSX concept at the Detroit auto show there was applause. And we don’t mean the meek clapping.  This was actual, apparently sincere applause for a car. Honda’s U.S. chief, Takanobu Ito, who served on the engineering team for the first NSX, appeared to inflate as he breathed in the goodwill.

“In this new era, even as we focus on the fun to drive spirit of the NSX, I think a supercar must respond positively to environmental responsibilities,” said Honda president Takanobu Itoh.

VTEC V6 direct injection engine dated 2 Electric Motor Drive Unit. “Sport Hybrid System SH-AWD will make the Honda NSX a remarkable expression of Acura idea to create a synergy between man and machine,” said Takanobu Ito, president and CEO of Honda Motor Company, told journalists while in Detroit.

The legendary NSX supercar will be reborn in 2015.

A Honda for your Teen

You have teenagers, they always need to borrow the car and summer break is only a few months away. They always want to borrow the car a lot more in the summer… to get to their job, their friend’s house or to an activity.  Let’s say you’re going to buy them their own car to teach them about responsibility. Vroomgirls.com recently compiled a list of ‘6 Best New Cars For Your Teenage‘.

Here’s what they had to say about the Honda Fit:

“The Honda Fit is one of our favorite small cars for drivers of any age. Despite its diminutive, easy-to-park size, the Fit’s back seat seems impossibly big, and the 20.6 cubic foot cargo bay and fancy folding rear seat means the Honda Fit can accommodate all the gear your active teen can throw into it. The Fit’s simple control layout and big windows make for easy, distraction free driving, and while the Honda Fit isn’t the cheapest small car, it’s built to last — Hondas are notoriously trouble-free, which means the Fit can serve your teen driver through high school, college, grad school, and well into that first job, and will even accommodate car seats and baby strollers. In fact, it’s entirely possible that your teen-age Honda Fit driver may end up as an adult with a teen-age Honda Fit.”

We have new Honda Fits on the lot, so stop by Autopark Honda - we’ve got you covered!

Alternatives to High Gas Prices

Fuel prices are above $3.80 per gallon nationally… and it’s not going to drop drastically any time soon, or ever. As fuel prices continue to rise, customers are more interested in fuel-efficient compacts and hybrids to find relief from the pump.

A recent survey of car shoppers on kbb.com found that 51% of respondents are now considering a smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicle, while 20% are considering an alternative-fuel vehicle such as a diesel or hybrid.  Did you know Honda was the very first auto manufacturer to offer a mass-production hybrid model for the U.S.?

What are your Honda ‘fuel efficient, hybrid, alternative to fuel’ options?

Here’s the lowdown: (all mpg totals are estimated)

So if you’re looking for an environmentally responsible car that fits your budget and your lifestyle, visit Autopark Honda, we’ve got plenty of options for you.

The Hybrid winner is… the 2012 Honda Insight

Kelley Blue Book published their 2012 Total Cost of Ownership Awards list and guess who won the Hybrid Car category: The 2012 Honda Insight!

“An affordable and attractive entry point to the super-efficient gasoline-electric realm, the Honda Insight shares powertrain elements with the Honda Civic Hybrid and receives aerodynamic revisions for 2012 that further enhance its already stellar EPA ratings. The Insight’s lower fair purchase price and subsequent lower depreciation figure helped this five-passenger five-door claim top spot in the Hybrid Car category over its sportier two-seat cousin, the Honda CR- Z.” (Kelley Blue Book’s write up of the 2012 Honda Insight)

The Total Cost of Ownership Awards looks at many factors when choosing a winner. While initial price is always a prime focus when making a new vehicle purchase decision, ultimately the ‘best deal’ also entails factoring in a number of other elements that can have an equally meaningful impact on long-term expenses. To help bring those big picture details into focus, Kelley Blue Book calculated and integrated data from eight different categories to come up with real-world bottom-line figure that allows for direct comparisons to be made over a five-year period.

If you’re interested in becoming a little more green this year stop by Autopark Honda, take an Insight out for a test drive and see what all the fuss is about.

2012 Honda Odyssey: Best Minivan Award

The 2012 Honda Odyssey has received the 2012 MotorWeek Drivers’ Choice Award for Best Minivan. This is the sixth time the Odyssey has garnered the Drivers’ Choice Award from MotorWeek, with Honda’s benchmark minivan having won the award in back-to-back years in 1999/2000, 2005/2006 and now 2011/2012. MotorWeek looks at the factors mattering most to consumers – price, practicality, performance and fuel efficiency – when selecting the winner.

“When it comes to vacationing with lots of family and friends, and carrying all their belongings, we can’t think of a more comfortable way to do it than in the Honda Odyssey.  And that’s why it’s back again this year as our Best Minivan. Despite a new Nissan Quest and revamped Chrysler vans, we still prefer the Odyssey’s extra smooth ride, Accord-like handling, and cavernous cabin. But most of all, we love its class leading 28-MPG Highway fuel economy rating.” says MotorWeek.

Here are some of the facts: (visit us to learn more)

  • Transmission: 5-Speed Automatic / 6-Speed Automatic
  • Engine:  3.5L, V6, 24-valve SOHC i-VTEC, 248-hp, 250 lbs/ft of torque,
  • Length/weight: 202.9 inches / 4337 – 4560 lbs
  • Wheelbase: 118.1 inches
  • EPA fuel economy: 18 city / 27 highway / 21 combined (5 speed), 19 city / 28 highway / 22 combined (6 speed)
  • Cargo capacity: 38.4 cubic feet (behind the 3rd row)

It has also earned a 5-Star overall safety rating from both NHTSA and is the Top Safety Pick by the IIHS, an achievement that no other currently tested minivan can match.

Stop by Autopark Honda, take an Odyssey out for a test drive and see what all the fuss is about.

Honda @ Super Bowl XLVI

Super Bowl XLVI is quickly approaching… can you feel it? Not only are you watching the best of the best football teams compete, but you’re also watching the best of the best commercials as well!

This year Honda is showcasing the redesigned CR-V and the “leap list”, which is ambitious life goals put forth by twenty and thirtysomething year olds.

The leap lists in the campaign reflect “the life change, the life transition, that Generation Y is going through,” and how the CR-V “can help you accomplish things, get things done,” said Joe Baratelli, executive vice president and executive creative director at RPA.

You’ve probably seen these commercials on TV and online already, but the Super Bowl commercial will be a different ‘leap list’.  And, lucky us, it will be launched via YouTube 10-14 days before its Super Bowl showing, which means any time next week!

Here’s an interesting fact: Honda introduced the CR-V with a commercial in Super Bowl XXXI in 1997.

If you have a leap list and need a vehicle that will help you to check things off of it, then stop by AutoPark Honda today and take a 2012 Honda CR-V out for a test drive.

Women buy Honda

In my online explorations of all things Honda I came across a website called www.vroomgirls.com ‘The Best Car Site for Women’.

An article titled “What Women Want – Female buyers chose these 10 rides over all others in 2011″ caught my eye and I read on. I was more than excited to see that Honda placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th on this list… more than any other manufacturer. Proving once again that women have great taste and make sound decisions based on quality and reliability.

So which vehicles made the cut for the gender with the most purchasing power?

4th placeHonda Accord: “Almost every person on earth has heard of the Accord… year-after-year, for more than two-and-a half decades, the five-seat Accord has been a best seller. It is built to last, and easy to drive. And it offers just the right amount of comfort and features without going overboard.”

3rd placeHonda Civic: “The Civic is, and always has been, a crowd-pleaser of epic proportions. First off, the Civic appears smaller than it actually is. Climb inside and it feels like a whole different animal. The front seat offers as much forward room as some full-size cars, so it’s comfy for long trips. Besides its generous packaging, it’s fun-to-drive, well put-together, and cute.”

Which leaves the top Honda on the list, holding 2nd placeHonda CR-V: “The CR-V drives like a car, and is as affordable as a car, but offers the form and function of a small SUV. It’s this blending of two worlds that gives this kind of vehicle the designation of “crossover,” and the CR-V crosses car and utility better than any other out there.”

So ladies… if you’re wondering what other women are buying and why, here you have it… Honda it is. And Gentlemen, if you’re wondering what she wants… well, we’ve got it!

Stop by AutoPark Honda today and take one of these vehicles out for a test drive… tell us what you think.
